One Amazing Man

I accidentally stumble upon a documentary about an American football star with an incredible story. I was in awe. I had so much to learn and grow. This man is Steve Gleason, a man who was and still is concurring ALS, a man who is fighting ALS for more than 10 years, An Amazing fight, journey and life. This man had a carrier, and life full with promises. He became the symbol of recovery for New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina hit the state, but then everything went to pieces with one muscle twitch and a doctor diagnose. He start living with the ALS, as I believe everybody would do. But what strike me was his remarkable zest for life, he didn't give up, he prepare for the future with ALS. He prepare for the fight with his enemy ALS, and the politics that came with it. He went to congress to change the outcome for the terminal ALS patients and open a facility for them. He didn’t loose his spirit for life. He has two kids and continue fight the fight.

And I start thinking of us, the rest or most of us who don’t have his “luck” and so I start thinking… Here we are, stressing over life and its adversity, creating problems bigger than the problems themselves. We worry about everything for no apparent reason, we are fat/too skinny, we are ugly/snotty, we are smart/stupid, we are successful/failing to achieve, and then there is house, work, kids, relatives, relationships. But then you see on tv or any other social media that one person, who is with a terminal disease and knows that most likely health and life won’t win. But that person continues to live, fight and help others. Then and only then your mind expands a little more outside your box, in which you have been living and you weren’t aware of it until that exact moment. You knew but you didn’t really know, you were aware of it, but not really aware. How is it possible, there are people living with terminal diseases, who not only don’t give up, but they live and never surrender, the one and only enemy of human kind - Terminal Disease. And now you start to evaluate and revaluate your life and values and you realise, that your life is just fine. Just fine. So now that we Know the known that our life is good, we start to appreciate it in all of its beauty, we don’t question anymore, we don’t worsen the issues on a day to day basis. The opposite, we welcome them and celebrate them. That one awakening moment is our saviour for living life in a meaningful way, be brave and be giving. So don’t get caught in the fight for election for a president, appreciate that you can be there and do it. Don’t get upset that your lipstick you put on in the morning will be kissed by the mask you wear to protect yourself and others. Look out the window and appreciate the beauty of the day, that you are healthy and alive, we take them for granted every single day and we shouldn’t. Why is it that those with terminal diseases are the ones who do more than the healthy ones? They have accepted the truth and instead of dweling on it they work with it. It’s time we do the same. Wake up and smell the roses has never been more true. We have Covid 19 to deal with from now on. We will live with it. So why not make the best out of it. Working from home, being closed at home , was not only scary but put in depression many people. However many of us found the positive and embraced it. Start creating, rediscover your own identity, find out what your life is all about now under the new way of living, think and work to better yourself, and help others. There is nothing more rewarding then the help you give to a fellow man.
